Location: Christchurch Women’s Hospital, Ōtautahi | Employment Type: Fixed Term, Part Time (0.6 FTE) | Duration: 12 Months

About us

Health New Zealand leads the delivery of health services across Aotearoa, ensuring high-quality, equitable care at local, regional, and national levels.

Here in Canterbury, we provide health services to almost 600,000 people and are deeply committed to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, embedding partnership with Māori at the forefront of everything we do.

About the role

Christchurch Women’s Hospital is a busy tertiary referral centre managing around 6,000 deliveries per year, providing a comprehensive range of Gynaecology services and acting as the regional referral centre for Gynaecological Oncology across Te Waipounamu | the South Island.

We are an accredited training site with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG), supporting both training and non-training registrars.

We now have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Medical Officer (SMO) in Obstetrics & Gynaecology with a special interest and experience in Colposcopy and Hysteroscopy to join our Women’s Health Service.

This is a 0.6 FTE fixed-term position for 12 months, covering a vacancy while we plan for future staffing needs and workforce distribution.

You will provide comprehensive clinical care within the women’s outpatient service, including gynaecology, colposcopy, outpatient hysteroscopy, minor procedures and acute gynaecology services. There may be opportunities to include additional interest sessions (such as obstetric duties on birthing suite, caesarean section lists, or antenatal care) to complement your outpatient work.

You will also support the Colposcopy and Hysteroscopy Lead Clinicians to maintain the quality of the Colposcopy Service in line with NCSP and Cervical Quality Improvement Programme (C-QuiP) standards, and contribute to service improvement, audit, registrar training, and education.

There is scope to participate in the department’s obstetric on-call roster depending on service needs and your area of interest.
