About the Role

As an Obstetrics & Gynaecology Medical Specialist, you will provide expert care across inpatient and outpatient settings, including acute assessment areas and operating theatres. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Acute obstetric and gynaecology services.
  • Ward rounds and acute inpatient reviews.
  • Antenatal care in partnership with Lead Maternity Carers.
  • Outpatient clinics (including colposcopy and/or hysteroscopy).
  • Participation in the on-call roster.
  • Supporting registrar training and contributing to service development projects.

This role also offers opportunities to engage in multidisciplinary meetings, clinical governance, and quality improvement initiatives.

About the Team/Location

Our Women’s Health Service is based at Christchurch Hospital Campus, providing secondary and tertiary care for the Canterbury region and supporting services on the West Coast. You will join a collaborative team of obstetricians, midwives, sonographers, radiologists, geneticists, and allied specialists.

About You

We are looking for a specialist who is passionate about delivering high-quality care and committed to equity. You will have:

  • Vocational Registration in Obstetrics & Gynaecology with the Medical Council of NZ.
  • Membership of RANZCOG or equivalent.
  • Broad clinical experience across secondary and tertiary O&G settings.
  • Demonstrated commitment to clinical teaching and research.

Additional desirable skills:

  • Advanced laparoscopic surgery (including endometriosis management).
  • Obstetric ultrasound expertise (DDU or willingness to train) and a willingness/ability to support our FMM service .
  • Experience in pelvic pain management.
  • Willingness to support the Transalpine Rural Generalist Obstetrics (RGO) model with travel to the West Coast (Te Tai Poutini) as an established rostered duty .
