Occupational Therapist - Driver Assessment Service
- Fixed term, part time 0.85FTE position (34 hours per week) covering parental leave
- Starting 29 September 2026 through to 27 September 2027
- Based at Burwood Campus

About the Role
Are you a passionate Occupational Therapist looking to make a meaningful difference in people's independence and quality of life? Join our dedicated team at Burwood Hospital and play a vital role in supporting clients to achieve safe and successful driving outcomes.
In this unique position, you will work alongside an Advanced Practice Occupational Therapist and Driving Instructors, providing comprehensive assessment and rehabilitation services for clients with a wide range of health conditions and backgrounds. In this role, you will work to provide a robust on and off-road assessment of the referred patient ability to drive safely.
Working with people from diverse social and cultural communities, you will bring a holistic, client-centred approach, enthusiasm, and clinical expertise to help achieve the best possible outcomes.
You will be responsible for:
- Undertaking Occupational Therapy assessments and determining a medical fitness to drive
- Determining (if appropriate) rehabilitation plans and goals
- Providing education and resources to the client and their family/whānau
- Prioritising,
organising and managing a case load while allocating time appropriately
About You
You are a motivated and adaptable Occupational Therapist who enjoys working with people from diverse backgrounds and supporting them to achieve meaningful outcomes.
To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:
- Comprehensive clinical assessment and problem-solving skills, with preferred experience in Older Persons Health and neurology
- Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively, to develop positive interpersonal relationships, and work flexibly within the team, with a team player attitude
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, to liaise effectively with health professionals both within the in-patient services and in the community
- Strong clinical reasoning skills and use of evidence informed practice
- Effective time management and organisational skills
- A positive attitude and enthusiasm for this area of work
- Registration with the NZ Occupational Therapy Board and current Annual Practicing Certificate
- As local travel is required, a full driver’s license is essential
