Ophthalmic Technician


  • Fixed Term Full Time 1.0FTE (40 hours per week), through to 30th June 2027
  • Monday to Friday, variable shifts between the hours of 7am to 5:30pm

About the role

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Ophthalmic Technician to join our dynamic Eye Service team. As an Ophthalmic Technician, you will be responsible for conducting visual function and technical tests on both adult and paediatric patients. Your expertise will contribute to the accurate diagnoses made by our Ophthalmologists, ensuring a high-quality professional service to our patients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertake visual function and technical tests in both adult and paediatric patients, including but not limited to visual acuity, autorefraction, automated perimetry, corneal topography, keratometry, biometry, intraocular pressure, pachymetry, blood pressure, fundal and anterior segment photography and scans, electrophysiology assisting, minor procedures and intravitreal injections assisting
  • Record test results for the referring Ophthalmologist to facilitate accurate diagnoses
  • Ensure all procedures adhere to safety guidelines and unit protocols
  • Recognize and report unsafe procedures and practices to the Safety Officer when necessary
  • Regularly attend fire safety practices
  • Ensure procedures meet quality specifications and equipment is regularly checked and maintained in collaboration with Medical Physics or Suppliers

About You

The successful candidate will be meticulous, detail-oriented, and committed to maintaining safety standards and quality specifications as well as be able to demonstrate the following skills:

  • Computer literate and adept with changing technology
  • Ability to work quickly and efficiently under pressure
  • Previous experience as an Ophthalmic Technician is advantageous
