About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Ophthalmologist to join our team at Christchurch Hospital on a fixed-term basis to provide parental leave cover. This role is 0.8 FTE, commencing 21 September 2026 through to 24 September 2027.
As an Ophthalmologist, you will provide high-quality specialist care across a broad range of ophthalmic services, contributing to both acute and planned care pathways. You will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and support service delivery across inpatient, outpatient, and theatre settings.

About the Team / Service / Location
The Canterbury Eye Service is a busy and progressive tertiary ophthalmology service based at Christchurch Hospital, providing specialist eye care to the Canterbury region and wider South Island. The service delivers comprehensive ophthalmic care across a broad range of subspecialties, including acute, outpatient, surgical, and complex tertiary referrals.
Working alongside a dedicated multidisciplinary team of Ophthalmologists, registrars, nurses, orthoptists, and allied health professionals, you will contribute to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care while supporting service innovation and continuous improvement.

About You
As an experienced Ophthalmologist, you will bring:
- Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO), or equivalent
- Eligibility for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand
- A commitment to delivering high-quality, equitable patient care
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- A collaborative approach to multidisciplinary teamwork
- A commitment to continuous quality improvement and service development
