About the Role

We are seeking a Paediatric Neurologist to join our Child Health team on a 0.9 FTE fixed-term basis to provide parental leave cover from 19 October 2026 until 18 June 2027

This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a collaborative tertiary service delivering comprehensive neurological care to infants, children and adolescents across the South Island.

As a Paediatric Neurologist, you will provide specialist assessment, diagnosis and management of children with a broad range of neurological disorders across both inpatient and outpatient settings. The role includes participation in outreach clinics, providing specialist advice to referrers, contributing to EEG reporting and supporting the South Island ketogenic diet service. You will work closely with a highly skilled multidisciplinary team including paediatricians, nursing staff, psychologists, psychiatrists, dietitians, physiotherapists and allied health professionals to deliver coordinated, family-centred care.

In addition to your clinical responsibilities, you will contribute to teaching, clinical governance, quality improvement and service development initiatives while supporting the ongoing advancement of paediatric neurology services across our region. 

About the Team / Service / Location

The Paediatric Neurology Service is part of the Child Health Service at Christchurch Hospital, the South Island's largest tertiary referral centre. The service provides specialist neurological assessment and management for children and young people throughout Canterbury, the West Coast and, for selected services, across the wider South Island.

The team is committed to delivering equitable, evidence-based care while fostering a culture of collaboration, education, research and continuous improvement. Clinicians work closely with regional colleagues and participate in outreach clinics to ensure children and families have access to specialist expertise closer to home.

About You

To be successful in this role you will have:

• Vocational registration (or eligibility for registration) with the Medical Council of New Zealand in Paediatric Neurology 
• Fellowship or equivalent specialist qualification recognised by the Medical Council of New Zealand 
• Significant experience managing children and adolescents with neurological disorders 
• A commitment to multidisciplinary, family-centred care and clinical excellence 
• Demonstrated interest in teaching, quality improvement and service development 
• Excellent communication and collaborative relationship-building skills across multidisciplinary teams
