About the Role
As a SMO in Paediatric Medicine, you will provide specialist assessment and care for children and young people with neurodevelopmental conditions, feeding disorders, and care and protection concerns.
A key component of this role includes working as a Gateway health assessor, delivering comprehensive, holistic assessments and contributing to multi-agency planning to support children at risk. You will also run outpatient clinics focused on developmental and feeding concerns, working closely with a multidisciplinary team including allied health, nursing, mental health, and child protection services.
Your role will include clinical care, teaching and supervision, participation in service development, and contributing to quality improvement initiatives. You will also take part in the general paediatric on-call roster during winter weekends.

The Paediatric Medicine team in Waitaha Canterbury is a collaborative and supportive group committed to delivering high-quality, equitable care to children and their whānau across the Canterbury and West Coast regions.
You will be working within a well-established Child Health Service, alongside experienced clinicians across paediatrics, mental health, and allied health, all focused on achieving the best outcomes for tamariki.

About You
As a Senior Medical Officer in Paediatric Medicine, you will bring:
- Vocational registration (or eligibility) with the Medical Council of New Zealand
- Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) or equivalent
- Significant experience in neurodevelopmental paediatrics
- Experience working with children with care and protection concerns
- A strong commitment to multidisciplinary collaboration, teaching, and service improvement
