Payroll Officer - Legislation and Compliance

About the Role
We are seeking a motivated Payroll Officer to join our Legislation and Compliance Team within our Payroll Department. This is a busy role where you will be responsible for development and delivery of excellent customer service experience, make timely and accurate payments to kaimahi (staff) of Te Tai o Poutini (West Coast) and Waitaha (Canterbury), maintain employee records and work closely with the HRSS kapa (team).
You will be responsible for:
- Interpretation and extension of bulk timesheets, exception sheets, leave forms and other documents as required in accordance with employment agreements and the Holidays Act
- Calculations of entitlements as required
- Providing accurate and prompt information to ACC and other external parties.
- Running fortnightly pays on weekly rotation
- Loading pay data into the Payroll system
- Tax, deductions and Kiwisaver maintenance
- Checking reports and audit requirements
- Calculating and checking colleagues’ calculations for final pays, back payments, overpayments, parental leave payments, cash ups as per the Holidays Act and or different MECA’s.
- Co-ordinating, training, and supporting other team members
- Answering employee related queries with a confidential and empathetic approach
About the Team
The Payroll kapa (team) is a fundamental
part of the HR Shared Services (HRSS) whānau (family). They tautoko
(support) the largest workforce in the South Island ensuring we pay our kaimahi
(staff) accurately, on time, every time. They’re hard-working and dedicated
delivering their mahi (work) to high standards putting the kaimahi (staff) at
the centre of what they do.
About You
To be successful in this role, you should be comfortable in a complex, diverse and fast-paced work environment. We need someone who’s resilient, driven, works well under pressure and is unphased by delivering to deadlines while achieving a high level of accuracy. This role would suit an energetic problem solver with a keen eye for detail who can adapt their style and focus when the need arises. Drive and determination to deliver excellent customer service is a must.
Skills and Experience:
- Excellent communication skills and customer services experience.
- Sound organisational and time management skills to meet tight deadlines.
- Accurate numeracy and keyboard skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Understanding of ACC payment legislation and Holidays act.
- Experience processing Payroll with Superannuation, Kiwi Saver, Deductions, IR Filing and taxation is preferred.
- Competent user of Microsoft Suite applications and proficient user of Microsoft Excel.
