We are seeking a Pharmacy Technician to lead our purchasing and supply function within the Canterbury hospital pharmacy service. This role is focused on supporting the safe, reliable and cost-effective supply of medicines across Health NZ Waitaha Canterbury.
You will play a key role in the medicines supply chain, contributing to demand forecasting, inventory management and procurement activities that support clinical services across the organisation. The role requires close adherence to standard operating procedures, contracts, and regulatory requirements to ensure medicines are supplied safely and efficiently.
You will work closely with pharmacy staff, suppliers, distributors and other internal and external stakeholders, responding to supply issues, managing stock risks and supporting continuity of supply. Clear communication and accurate documentation are essential components of the role.
You will be part of a collaborative pharmacy team made up of technicians, pharmacists, assistants and administrative staff who work together to deliver safe, timely and patient focused medicines services.

We are looking for a
pharmacy technician who is organised, detail-focused and interested in
medicines purchasing and supply chain management. This role would suit someone
who enjoys working with systems and data, takes a proactive approach to problem
solving and understands how strong supply processes contribute to clinical
care.
Key tasks include:
- Managing day-to-day medicines purchasing activities to support safe, reliable and cost-effective supply across the service
- Monitoring demand, forecasting usage and managing inventory levels to minimise supply disruption and wastage
- Maintaining accurate purchasing, contract and inventory records within pharmacy systems
- Ensuring purchasing activities comply with relevant SOPs, contracts, policies and regulatory requirements
- Liaising with suppliers, distributors, couriers and internal stakeholders to resolve supply issues and manage changes
- Maintaining and updating SOPs and purchasing documentation
- Providing guidance and training to pharmacy staff on purchasing processes and systems
- Identifying opportunities for
improvement in purchasing and supply processes and contributing to service
development
About you
- Hold a NZ Pharmacy Technicians Certificate (Level 5)
- At least two year’s hospital pharmacy experience
- Possess good computer skills including data entry and retrieval
- Organised and reliable
- Attention to detail
- Proactive problem solver
- Ability to work independently and efficiently
- Ability to work calmly under pressure
- Clear,
professional communication skills
