The department provides regular continuing education and numerous other training opportunities.

We are looking for an enthusiastic technician with a good work ethic, enjoys working as part of a team, has excellent interpersonal skills and a strong desire to learn. Hospital experience is preferred but not mandatory.  If you are considering a switch to hospital and have a willingness to learn, you will find you are well supported with your transition.

This is an exciting and varied opportunity working within an experienced team of Pharmacists, Technicians and Assistants who are all passionate about the health and wellbeing of the Canterbury community. There will also be the opportunity to participate in our weekend roster (Saturday morning).

About You

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Dispensing inpatient and outpatient medication including clinical trials, compassionate supplies, home IV therapy, chemotherapy and sterile products
  • Repacking
  • Compounding sterile and non-sterile products
  • Assisting with the provision of clinical pharmacy services to wards including medication history taking and patient education
  • Support in training of student technicians, intern and student pharmacists.

 Your skills will include:

  • Excellent communication, attention to detail and time management skills
  • A client-focused approach to work and a commitment to providing high-quality service
  • Adaptable to changing team environments
  • Hospital pharmacy experience is advantageous but not essential
  • Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth 
  • A Pharmacy Technician’s Certificate (level 5), or be upgrading to the former from an equivalent overseas qualification, is essential.
