Phlebotomist | Canterbury Health Laboratories
- Christchurch – Canterbury Health Laboratories – Blood Test Centre
- Part-time permanent position working 20 hours per week (Saturday and Sunday 7am to 11am, and 2 6 hours shifts during the week)

Are you an experienced Phlebotomist who takes pride in providing a professional, compassionate and high-quality service to patients?
Canterbury Health Laboratories is seeking a skilled and motivated Phlebotomist to join our Blood Test Centre team. This is an opportunity to play an important role in supporting patient care by providing safe, efficient and accurate blood collection services across our locations.
About the role
As a phlebotomist, you will be responsible for collecting blood samples from inpatients and outpatients while ensuring patients receive a positive and professional experience.
You will:
- Collect blood samples safely and efficiently, with minimum discomfort to patients
- Ensure samples are collected into the correct containers and handled appropriately for the tests requested
- Ensure samples are collected within clinically appropriate timeframes and delivered to the correct location for processing
- Provide kind, courteous and respectful service to patients, clients, staff and members of the public
- Protect patient privacy and maintain confidentiality
- Register samples accurately in the Delphic Laboratory Information System (LIS)
- Process electronic orders and undertake pre-analytical sample processing
- Maintain knowledge of laboratory tests and codes
- Adapt to new technology, techniques and processes as they are introduced
- Participate in departmental meetings, training and ongoing education
- Contribute to continuous improvement and maintaining high standards of service
- Support colleagues and contribute positively to a collaborative team environment
- Undertake other duties as required across the Blood Test Centre and relevant laboratory areas
About you
You will be an experienced Phlebotomist who is confident working with patients and committed to providing a high-quality service.
You will bring:
- Current Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand Annual Practising Certificate (APC) as a Phlebotomist
- Demonstrated experience and competence in collecting blood samples from patients
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- A genuine client-focused approach and commitment to quality outcomes
- The ability to work effectively as part of a team and foster positive working relationships
- A willingness to support colleagues and contribute to improving team performance
- A proactive approach to learning and maintaining your professional knowledge and skills
- The ability to work calmly and professionally in a busy patient-focused environment
