About the Role

Here at Christchurch Hospital we are looking for an experienced Physiotherapist with a special interest in paediatric physiotherapy to join us in providing a quality service to our patients. This role is an outpatient role, seeing children with primarily orthopaedic injuries and conditions.  The role is part of our Musculoskeletal and Paediatric team working across the clinical specialities of inpatient paediatrics, orthopaedics, Acute Trauma, Acute Spinal, Emergency Department, Burns and Plastics, ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat), and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. 

In this role, you will be responsible for:

• Using detailed anatomical knowledge and musculoskeletal physiotherapy evidence to assess and manage a range of paediatric presentations including:
• Non – ACC patients with persistent growth and development related musculoskeletal conditions that impair daily physical daily function e.g. toe walking
• Post surgery rehabilitation e.g. clubfoot repair
• Paediatric oncology patients e.g. deconditioning, chemotherapy induced peripheral neuropathy, etc.
• Providing advice or referring to other services
• Supporting quality improvement activities

About You

Excellent communication skills will ensure that you work effectively within the team. This includes building rapport with children and whānau in challenging situations to ensure the best care is given to the child. Planning, organisational and service development skills are central to this busy role. 

Essential skills and experience include:

• A minimum of 2 years clinical experience working in Paediatrics, ideally in an outpatient setting
• Good understanding of the current management principles of chronic pain as well as an understanding of the principles of education;
• An ability to contribute to interdisciplinary service development
• Knowledge of quality improvement principles and processes
• An ability to work unsupervised
• Excellent communication skills both verbally and written
• Demonstrated leadership abilities (desirable)
• Enthusiasm and confidence in sharing your knowledge across your discipline
• A working knowledge of quality improvement processes
• Registration with the NZ Physiotherapy Board and an Annual Practicing Certificate is essential
• Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth
• Experience in projects / initiatives which give effect to Te Tiriti principals and frameworks, and the application of Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings
