About the Role

We are seeking an experienced, forward-thinking Physiotherapy Team Coordinator to provide leadership to our Musculoskeletal & Acute Paediatric (MSKP) cluster for 8‑month parental leave cover. This leadership role oversees physiotherapy services across Orthopaedics, the Emergency Department (ED), and Paediatrics, supporting high‑quality, patient‑centred care within fast-paced and varied clinical environments.

As Team Leader, you will provide day-to-day leadership and operational oversight, support staff wellbeing and development, and contribute to service improvement and strategic planning alongside the wider allied health leadership team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership, coordination, and operational oversight for physiotherapists working in Orthopaedics, ED, and Paediatrics
  • Support staff with clinical guidance, supervision, and professional development
  • Facilitate effective team communication and workforce planning
  • Oversee service delivery to ensure patient flow, safety, and high-quality clinical care
  • Work collaboratively with clinical managers, senior clinicians, and multidisciplinary colleagues
  • Contribute to service development, quality improvement, and innovation across the MSKP cluster
  • Provide input into recruitment, induction, and staff wellbeing initiatives
  • Maintain a portion of clinical practice aligned with your expertise and service needs

You will be required to contribute to the weekend and on-call rosters.

About the Team

This role is part of the Christchurch Hospital Physiotherapy team, with over 60 team members across a large range of specialities and more specifically sits within the Musculoskeletal & Paediatric cluster, a team of approximately 20 physiotherapists. This cluster is a skilled and collaborative team that prides itself on high‑quality, evidence‑based care and a culture of mutual support delivering effective physiotherapy across diverse clinical settings. Additionally, this role forms part of our physiotherapy leadership team which delivers operational and clinical leadership across the department.

About you

To be successful in this role you will demonstrate the following:

  • Significant clinical experience in musculoskeletal, orthopaedic, paediatric, or acute care settings
  • Strong leadership, mentoring, and communication skills
  • Confidence managing teams, navigating change, and supporting staff in busy clinical environments
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong working relationships across disciplines
  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach with a commitment to equitable, patient-centred care
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the significance of and obligations under Te Tiriti o Waitangi, including how to apply Te Tiriti principles in a meaningful way in your role
