About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Physiotherapist to join our Women’s Health Service at Christchurch Hospital on a 0.8 FTE basis (32 hours per week). There may be a requirement to complete clinics across additional sites, including Burwood Hospital, depending on service need.
This role is primarily based in the outpatient setting, providing specialist assessment, treatment, and education for women with pelvic health conditions. In addition, you will contribute to inpatient ward work, supporting women on the maternity ward, including post-natal education and discharge planning as required.
You will work with wāhine across the
lifespan, including those requiring pelvic floor rehabilitation, continence
management, persistent pelvic pain management, support with sexual dysfunction,
prolapse management, and gynaecological oncology follow‑up. This is a rewarding
and varied role with strong opportunities to further develop your expertise in
women’s health physiotherapy within a supportive team.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide pelvic floor‑specific physiotherapy assessment and treatment in outpatient clinics
- Deliver pelvic floor rehabilitation, exercise programmes, education, and behavioural strategies
- Contribute to postnatal inpatient care
- Manage patients with continence issues, pelvic pain, prolapse, sexual dysfunction and gynaecological conditions
- Work collaboratively with midwives, obstetricians, gynaecology teams, and wider MDT
- Educate and empower patients and whānau to support self‑management and long-term well being
- Participate in service development, quality improvement, and ongoing professional development
- Support students or junior staff where appropriate
About the Team
This role is part of the
Christchurch Hospital Physiotherapy team, with over 60 roles across a large
range of specialties and more specifically sits within the Women’s team, a team
of approximately 5 including this role, that provides specialist care to wāhine across Waitaha.

About You
To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:
- Registration with the Physiotherapy Board of New Zealand and a current APC
- Strong communication skills and a compassionate, patient‑centred approach
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in women’s health / pelvic health physiotherapy, ideally within an outpatient setting
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development within the clinical area
- Ability to work autonomously across both outpatient and inpatient environments
- Experience in pessary management for prolapse, or willingness to upskill in this area
- Demonstrated
understanding of the significance of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, including the
ability to apply Te Tiriti principles in a meaningful way within your role
