About the Role
As a Consultant Psychiatrist, you will provide senior medical leadership and specialist psychiatric care within Addiction (Alcohol and Other Drug – AOD) Services at Hillmorton Hospital. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will support assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning for people experiencing substance use disorders and co-existing mental health conditions.
This role offers a varied and rewarding scope of practice, including direct clinical care, consultation, and collaboration with community and inpatient services. You will contribute to service development, clinical governance, teaching, and supervision of junior medical staff, supporting the delivery of safe, evidence-based, and recovery-focused care.

Hillmorton Hospital is Canterbury’s largest mental health facility, providing a comprehensive range of specialist mental health and addiction services. Our Addiction Services team is a skilled, multidisciplinary group committed to delivering integrated AOD care across inpatient and community settings.

About You
As a Psychiatrist in this service, you will bring:
- Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) or equivalent
- Vocational registration, or eligibility for vocational registration, with the Medical Council of New Zealand
- Advanced Training in Addiction Psychiatry and/or substantial clinical experience working in Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) services
- Demonstrated clinical leadership and a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach
- A commitment to equitable health outcomes and working in partnership with Māori in line with Te Tiriti o Waitangi
