About the Role

As an Older Persons Mental Health Consultant Psychiatrist, you will join our dedicated team providing specialist mental health assessment, diagnosis and treatment for older people experiencing complex mental health needs.

This is an opportunity to work alongside a multidisciplinary team delivering high-quality, person-centred care to older people and their whānau. You will have the opportunity to contribute your specialist expertise across a varied clinical caseload, working collaboratively with colleagues and community services to support the best possible outcomes for patients.

This is a permanent 0.6 FTE position, offering an excellent opportunity to combine a rewarding specialist role with flexibility outside of work. There may be the opportunity for additional FTE.

About the Team / Service / Location

Our Older Persons Mental Health service provides specialist assessment and treatment for older people across Canterbury, West Coast and Ashburton. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team committed to providing compassionate, evidence-based care and supporting older people to live well and maintain their independence wherever possible.

You will be part of a wider hospital and community service environment with strong links across the Canterbury health system.

About You

We are looking for a specialist who is passionate about older persons mental health and committed to providing high-quality, person-centred care.

You will have:

• Vocational registration, or eligibility for vocational registration, with the Medical Council of New Zealand in the scope of Psychiatry.
• Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP), or an equivalent specialist qualification.
• A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
• A commitment to culturally safe practice and improving equitable health outcomes for Māori.

Further training in Psychiatry of Old Age is preferred, but we can also provide training if candidates wish to work towards their RANZCP POA Certificate during their employment.
