  • LEAP (Late Effects Assessment Programme) service at the Child Haematology Oncology Centre (CHOC)

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is committed to building a health system that serves all New Zealanders.

About the Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic Psychologist for a 0.4FTE (16 hours per week) temporary cover position until July 2027 with LEAP (Late Effects Assessment Programme) service at the Child Haematology Oncology Centre (CHOC) based at Christchurch Hospital.

This is a great opportunity for a clinician to experience the physical health setting; a regular LEAP clinic and multidisciplinary team; and extend or brush up their skills in neuropsychological assessment.

Ideally, we are looking for availability on Thursdays (and one other day) as this is when LEAP clinics usually take place.

About the Service

LEAP is an established paediatric regional team consisting of a specialist paediatrician, clinical nurse specialist and psychologist. Based in Christchurch Hospital and involving a very small number of day clinics to Dunedin, Invercargill and Nelson (3-4). The role focuses on psychological screening and follow up in a regular clinic with children and young people (3-23 years) who completed their treatment for childhood or adolescent cancer some years prior. The focus is on the functional impacts of cancer and its treatment across development with an emphasis on living, thinking and learning well whilst growing up. There is a requirement for a small number of neuropsychological assessments, as well as screening for neurocognitive difficulties, and some case management.
