Psychologist - Paediatric Consult Team
- Fixed-term part time role 0.8FTE (32 hours per week) from 2nd June 2026 with proposed end date end of May 2027 (parental leave cover)
- Based at Christchurch Health Campus
- Hours of Work are between Monday and Friday 0800 -1630 (there is some flexibility on days of work, however one of the days must be a Tuesday, and Fridays are desirable)

About the Role
This role is part of Allied Health and is embedded within the Paediatric Consult Liaison Team (PCL), which sits within Child Health.
In this role you will:
- Be clinically embedded within the PCL team and are responsible for delivering psychology services to the children, young people and their whānau referred to this service
- Provide high-quality, developmentally informed psychological care, assessment and treatment, to all children and young people and their whānau referred to the PCL team
- Maintain high‑quality documentation and contribute to service planning, equity actions, and continuous improvement
About the Team
The PCL service is a group of psychiatrists, psychologists, and a physiotherapist who provide support to children and young people experiencing psychological difficulties related to medical conditions or acute medical presentations. The PCL team sees children who often have complex health care needs (including functional medical problems) due to interacting factors across medical, surgical, neurodevelopmental, educational, and family social domains. Through understanding the bio-psycho-social aspects of child and adolescent health presentations, members of the PCL team can work closely alongside the Child Health team to support an integrated response from health, education, and social care systems. The position has a formal line-management relationship with the Psychology Clinical Lead, who is responsible for performance management, development, professional leadership, and strategic oversight. The role receives day-to-day direction and operational supervision from the PCL Team Lead, and professional oversight from the Psychology Area Practice Lead for Child Health.

You will bring:
- Registration (or eligibility) as a Psychologist in Aotearoa New Zealand
- A relevant postgraduate qualification (Clinical Psychology, or Child & Family / Developmental / Educational scope)
- Experience supporting children/young people, ideally within a chronic illness or health setting
- Strong understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, cultural safety, and equitable practice
- Knowledge of the Health Information Privacy Code, CYPF Act, and DSM‑IV/DSM‑5
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and consultation skills
- Initiative, flexibility, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a fast‑paced multidisciplinary service
