About the role

We are looking for a professional and welcoming Receptionist to join our team in Ngakawau. As the first point of contact for patients, whānau, and visitors, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring people receive efficient and appropriate access to health services. This role also supports the smooth running of clinics and wider Health New Zealand services in the region.

As part of the Administration and Clerical Pay Equity Claim settlement this role has been mapped to National Band 3/Profile 3

What you’ll be doing

  • Providing a warm, professional welcome to patients and visitors, both in-person and over the phone
  • Managing the enrolment process, ensuring patient information is accurate and up to date
  • Supporting financial processes, including receipting payments, invoicing, balancing, and banking
  • Assisting with clinic administration including appointment bookings, scanning, filing, and correspondence
  • Maintaining tidy and welcoming waiting areas, supporting patients in distress, and assisting clinical staff as needed
  • Supporting the smooth daily operation of the clinic and reception, including rostering cover and ordering supplies
  • Upholding patient confidentiality and ensuring cultural sensitivity in all interactions

About you

Essential

  • A positive, professional attitude with strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Strong time management, problem-solving, and organisational abilities
  • Ability to prioritise workloads, work independently, and use initiative
  • Commitment to cultural safety and an understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles
  • Experience in customer service or administration
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and confidence learning new systems
  • Clean driver’s licence

Desirable

  • Previous experience in a health setting
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and patient management systems
  • Familiarity with hospital systems such as Indici, SAP, or Health Connect South
