Registered Nurse – Cardiovascular Lipid Disorders

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to join the Cardiovascular Prevention and Lipid Disorders Service at Christchurch Hospital. This is a unique opportunity to develop specialist expertise in cardiovascular risk assessment, prevention, and the management of genetic lipid disorders within a nationally recognised service.
Working under the direction of the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) and in collaboration with lipid physicians and the wider multidisciplinary team, you will undertake nurse-led clinics, providing assessment, education, and evidence-based interventions for patients requiring primary or secondary cardiovascular prevention.
Key responsibilities include:
- Assessing and supporting adults referred to the Cardiovascular Prevention and Lipid Disorders Clinic.
- Coordinating patient care and follow-up appointments with members of the multidisciplinary team.
- Assisting with the organisation and implementation of specialised cardiovascular risk assessment procedures and investigations.
- Providing emergency nursing cover for LDL apheresis and coordinating the LDL apheresis emergency cover roster.
- Supporting the identification and tracing of family members with inherited cholesterol disorders and maintaining associated family records.
- Maintaining service databases and patient information systems.
- Updating patient education resources and clinic materials.
- Managing referral documentation and supporting service waiting list processes.
- Contributing to multidisciplinary meetings, patient conferences, quality improvement initiatives, service planning, and the development of clinical protocols and guidelines.
About the Service
The Christchurch Hospital Lipid Disorders Service is a specialist multidisciplinary outpatient service focused on adult primary and secondary cardiovascular prevention, particularly for individuals with inherited cholesterol disorders.
Recognised as a leading service in New Zealand, the team contributes to both national and international clinical guidelines and provides specialist advice and support across the country. The service is committed to delivering high-quality, evidence-based care while advancing innovation and best practice in cardiovascular prevention.
This role offers the opportunity to work alongside experienced clinicians in a collaborative environment while contributing to ongoing service development and improved patient outcomes.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Current registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand and a current Annual Practising Certificate.
- A minimum of three years' experience as a Registered Nurse, including exposure to patients with cardiovascular or cardiology-related conditions.
- Strong health assessment, clinical reasoning, and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively.
- A passion for cardiovascular health and preventative care.
Desirable attributes include:
- Postgraduate study in advanced health assessment or an equivalent qualification.
- Proficient or Expert level on the Professional Development and Recognition Programme (PDRP).
- Experience in outpatient, chronic disease management, cardiovascular prevention, or genetic health services.
