About the Role

As a Casual Registered Nurse, you will support both the Cardiology Day Unit & Cardiac Catheter Labs and the Lipid Disorders Service at Christchurch Hospital. This role provides variety, autonomy, and the opportunity to work alongside expert multidisciplinary teams delivering advanced cardiac and cardiovascular risk management care.

Within the Cardiology Day Unit and Cardiac Catheter Labs, you will provide acute and planned care to patients undergoing diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures. With the recent expansion to a third Cardiac Catheter Lab and continued growth of the Electrophysiology service, this is an exciting time to join a forward-focused service committed to innovation, collaboration, and excellence.

In the Lipid Disorders Service, you will contribute to a nationally recognised “gold standard” multidisciplinary outpatient service specialising in the diagnosis, management, and cardiovascular prevention of adults and children with genetic cholesterol disorders. The nursing team undertake nurse led clinics involving comprehensive patient assessment, education, and intervention planning in a highly specialised setting.

The Cardiology Service at Christchurch Hospital provides comprehensive cardiac care across the South Island, delivering both acute and planned services. Our teams pride themselves on clinical excellence, innovation, and collaborative practice.

The Lipid Disorders Service is a nationally respected leader in cardiovascular prevention, contributing to New Zealand and international guidelines and standards. You will work within a supportive multidisciplinary team environment across both services.

About You

As an experienced Registered Nurse, you will bring:

  • Current New Zealand Registered Nurse APC
  • Minimum 3 years’ RN experience, including exposure to cardiology patients
  • Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills
  • Competence in IV cannulation and medication administration
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively

Desirable:

  • Postgraduate Health Assessment paper or equivalent
  • Proficient or Expert level on the PDRP pathway
  • ECG and rhythm interpretation skills
  • Previous Cardiac Catheter Lab experience
