About the Service

The Children’s Haematology Oncology Centre (CHOC) is one of two tertiary paediatric oncology centres in New Zealand. We provide inpatient and outpatient care for up to 50 new diagnoses per year. Our regional services provide shared care support for Tamariki (children) and their whanau (families) in the South Island and lower North Island and we participate in high quality clinical research programmes.

We currently have two fixed-term positions available due to parental leave. Please indicate in your personalised cover letter which role(s) you would like to be considered for.

Role 1: 12 months fixed-term position at 0.9FTE (36 hours per week) from mid-June 2026

Role 2: 6 months fixed-term position at 0.5FTE (20 hours per week) from July 2026

About You

We are looking to recruit a Registered Nurse, preferably with paediatric oncology experience (although, it is not essential) to join our dedicated multidisciplinary team to continue to ensure the quality care for the tamariki within our service. 

Our nurses are supported as we seek to provide clinical excellence with professional development and ongoing learning needs.

  • Experience in Child Health and/or chemotherapy administration
  • Experience in CVAD - Central Venous Access Device
  • Must be able to work all shifts – Morning, Afternoon and Nights across Monday to Sunday
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to engage well.
  • Effective problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively in a multidisciplinary team
  • Able to work well under pressure
  • Initiative and a proactive approach to work
  • Registered with the Nursing Council of New Zealand with a current Annual Practicing Certificate (APC)
