Registered Nurse - Diabetes Service (Māori focus)

About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity to join the Diabetes Specialist Service as a Māori Diabetes Registered Nurse. Our team is dedicated to empowering Māori patients to manage their diabetes and optimise their health. This role is a Nursing position with a Māori focus, where Diabetes nursing experience is essential. We have 1.0 FTE available which can be full time or shared as two 0.5 FTE positions.

As a role model you will engage with members of the Multidisciplinary Team, ensuring effective relationships are developed and maintained between the community, inpatient services and the NGO sector.  You will contribute to processes, pathways, policies and procedures to improve outcomes for the Māori population.  You will work collaboratively with initiatives of care delivery with services and community providers.

You will be comfortable with technology and its use to support self-management and improve health outcomes.  You will also have or be willing to work towards the relevant Postgraduate Study to support your clinical expertise with a view to obtaining a RN prescribing endorsement.

About You

We are looking for a passionate and empathetic team member who is:

  • A registered Nurse with at least three years’ experience and strong Māori community links.
  • You will be interested in developing your nursing practice to improve health outcomes and the management of Diabetes within the Māori community. 
  • You will hold an appreciation and understanding of health beliefs valued by the Māori community and be passionate about building knowledge and empowerment for self-management. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build effective relationships with a strong patient focus.
  • A current APC with a comprehensive scope of practice.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Willing to consider completing relevant post graduate education.
