Mō te tūnga | About the role

We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to join the Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Unit at Christchurch Hospital on a fixed-term parental leave cover from May 2026 to May 2027.

The Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Unit is a dynamic, patient-focused service providing a wide range of diagnostic and interventional endoscopy procedures. In this role you will contribute to the care of patients undergoing both diagnostic and therapeutic procedures while working within a highly skilled multidisciplinary team.

This is a fast-paced clinical environment where flexibility, strong clinical judgement, and excellent teamwork are essential.

Shifts are typically Monday to Friday, with start times between 7:30am and 9:30am.

Mō te tīma | About the Team / Service / Location

The Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Unit undertakes more than 14,000 diagnostic and interventional procedures annually and provides specialised gastrointestinal services to the Canterbury population. The service also acts as a secondary and tertiary referral centre for the South Island.

The unit operates from a purpose-built facility at Christchurch Hospital, featuring six procedure rooms and two recovery areas across two floors. The service also provides specialist endoscopy nursing support to other areas of the hospital campus including Waipapa, Parkside Operating Theatres, Interventional Radiology, and ICU.

In addition to clinical excellence, the service has a strong research programme recognised internationally and an active undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programme.

As a Registered Nurse in this service, you will bring strong clinical skills and the ability to work confidently in an acute setting.

You will also have:

  • Current registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand and a current APC
  • Acute medical or surgical nursing experience
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Strong clinical judgement and the ability to work well in a fast-paced environment
