Registered Nurse – Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Unit

About the Role
The Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Unit has an exciting
opportunity for Registered Nurses to develop their acute, technical nursing
skills.
Our nursing team work mostly in the Gastrointestinal
Endoscopy Unit; a purpose-built facility with six procedure rooms and two
recovery areas across two floors. The service also provides specialist
endoscopy nursing support to other areas of the Christchurch Hospital campus
such as Waipapa, Parkside Operating Theatres, Interventional Radiology and
Intensive Care Unit.
The Endoscopy Unit is operational Monday to Friday, with an
after-hours on-call nursing service. Shifts are 8 hours starting between 7:30am
– 9:30am.
About the Service
The Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Unit is a dynamic, patient
focused unit. We pride ourselves in being innovative, forward thinking and up
to date with technology and change. The unit undertakes more than 12,000
diagnostic and interventional endoscopy procedures per year and provides other
gastrointestinal services to the Canterbury population.
It is a secondary and tertiary referral service for the
South Island, with a strong research programme that is recognised
internationally, in addition to an active undergraduate and postgraduate
medical teaching programme.
About you
As a Nurse within the Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Unit, your
previous medical or surgical experience and technical abilities will help you
to provide care to patients undergoing diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy
procedures. You’ll have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and
the ability to work well under pressure within a multidisciplinary team
environment.
- Previous Gastrointestinal Endoscopy experience desirable
- 2+ years experience in acute medical or surgical experience is essential
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to engage well
- Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to effectively and efficiently complete tasks
- Motivated, shows initiative and is a flexible self-starter with the ability to work both in a team and autonomously
- Registered with the Nursing Council of New Zealand with a current Annual Practising Certificate (APC)
