Registered Nurse – Hyperbaric Medicine Unit

• Hyperbaric Medicine Unit, Christchurch Hospital
• 0.6 FTE (24 hours per week), Permanent position
• We are also open to a 0.4 FTE and internal applicants seeking 0.2 FTE increase
• Weekday hours plus participation in a 24-hour Acute on call roster.

About the Role

We are seeking a Registered Nurse with sound clinical skills and knowledge to join our team.

Your hours are worked Monday – Friday treating a variety of patients attending the unit for Hyperbaric Oxygen therapy.

Not only will you be looking after patients pre and post Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, you will be attending to the patients in the pressurised environment of the Hyperbaric Chamber itself.

The Unit also provides an Acute 24 hour on call roster thus your responsibilities in relation to your general hours of work will eventually include contributing an even share to the Acute on call roster as required.

To fulfil the role as a Registered Nurse attending to patients in the pressurised Chamber environment, you are required to complete a full Occupational Dive Medical every 5 years and an Occupational Dive Questionnaire annually.

Whilst this role is a 0.6FTE (24 hours per week) permanent position, we are also open to a 0.4FTE (16 hours per week) permanent position and internal applicants seeking an increase of 0.2FTE.

About the Service

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy delivers oxygen under pressure to body tissues.

The combination of pressure and high partial pressures of oxygen are the primary treatment for decompression sickness and arterial gas embolism.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is also a very useful therapy for a variety of conditions including radiation injury and hypoxic problem wounds.

We will provide you with a comprehensive orientation programme and you will receive support with your ongoing professional development.

About You

• You will be an enthusiastic, reliable person and work proactively to provide high quality patient care.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience
• Medical and surgical experience desirable
• Strong assessment, observational and organisational skills
• Wound care experience and venepuncture desirable
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Can work collaboratively and in partnership with all members of the Team
• Registered with the Nursing Council of New Zealand with a current Annual Practising Certificate (APC)
