Registered Nurse - Medical Progressive Care Unit

• Based at Christchurch Hospital
• 0.8FTE (32 hours per week), fixed-term parental leave cover until September 2026
• Rotating/Social roster - Morning, Afternoon and Night, Monday to Sunday

About the Role

This role is based in the Medical Progressive Care unit at Christchurch Hospital.  

We are looking for a Registered Nurse who will provide patient-centered care, including assessing health needs, administering treatments and providing emotional support to patients and their whanau.

Key responsibilities include:

• Managing patient admissions and discharges
• Coordinating with a multidisciplinary team
• Adhering to cultural safety guidelines and Te Tiriti o Waitangi
• Maintaining a safe environment by managing risks and completing incident reports.

The ideal candidate has strong communication and organizational skills, with a current Annual Practising Certificate from the New Zealand Nursing Council. 

About the Service

Medical Progressive Care unit is a 14-bed unit based at Christchurch Hospital.  We provide care to a variety of adult patients who are admitted in General Medicine service often with complex or multi-system health problems.  We offer a supportive environment with input and support from the Nurse Educator and Clinical Nurse Specialist to support both clinical provision of care as well as enhancing professional development. We will provide you with a thorough orientation package and ongoing support to develop the skills required to work in this exciting specialty. We are also committed to enable you to keep developing your nursing career, with an abundance of professional development opportunities available to you.

About You

In this busy acute environment, you’ll need excellent assessment and time management skills.

Your communications skills will be pivotal to your success in this role as you will be engaging and educating patients and their families to ensure the best possible outcome

You will have demonstrated ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively with other professionals. The ability to be adaptable, flexible and solution focused.

You will have a current Annual Practising Certificate from the New Zealand Nursing Council.
