Are you a Registered Nurse ready to build a meaningful career in oncology?

Join our Oncology Outpatients team at Christchurch Hospital, where you’ll begin with a comprehensive orientation in Radiation Oncology Outpatients, developing a strong foundation in cancer care. From there, you’ll have the opportunity to expand your practice into medical oncology and chemotherapy delivery, building a well-rounded skillset.

Starting in Radiation Oncology Outpatients you will:

  • Build confidence and expertise in patient assessment and managing treatment related side effects.
  • Contribute to coordinated, high quality complex care for patients undergoing concurrent chemotherapy, radiation, and brachytherapy.
  • Provide education and support to patients and their whānau.
  • Advance your practice to include brachytherapy.
  • Work closely with a highly skilled multidisciplinary team
  • Establish collaborative relationships within and across departments when coordinating patient care for cervical and prostate cancer brachytherapy.

As your skills grow, you will expand into:

  • Chemotherapy administration (with full training and competency support)
  • Ongoing patient management across the cancer treatment continuum

About You

  • Passionate about oncology nursing, is clinically credible, and patient centred.
  • Brings both clinical capability and competency.
  • Has a desire to develop expertise in Radiation and Medical Oncology nursing.
  • Engage in Post Graduate study, including RN prescribing.
  • Motivated, proactive and brings a positive attitude (and a sense of humour!)
  • Possesses sound clinical judgement, assessment and decision making.
  • Organised, adaptable and resilient and can think critically.
  • Communicates clearly and effectively.
  • Works collaboratively with the wider Oncology team including nurses, Oncologists and MDT
  • Contributes positively to the team culture through respect and collaboration.
  • Has the ability to work a variety of shifts Monday-Friday and selected public holidays.

Acute experience and/or chemotherapy/radiation/haematology experience - desirable but not essential for the right candidate.

Our desired candidate would have a competent/proficient PDRP and have obtained or be working towards post graduate study.
