About the Role
Our Adult Community Mental Health services consist of four city-based teams offering assessment and treatment for adults aged between 18-65 years with significant and enduring mental illness.
In this role you will provide evidence-based nursing care in the community setting, working closely with service users, whanau, and wider health sector providers with a strong focus on supporting service users back to Primary Care following specialist input. You will be part of a dedicated multidisciplinary team that includes psychiatrists, psychologists, occupational therapists, social workers, peer support workers, Pukenga Atawhai and other nursing colleagues.
The role offers a dynamic mix of clinical autonomy, community outreach and team collaboration. Your daily work will include conducting mental health assessments, developing and implementing treatment plans and coordinating care to ensure safety, stability and progress towards recovery. You will support service users in their homes, in community settings and within primary care partnerships, maintaining strong therapeutic relationships built on trust, empathy and respect.
We have multiple permanent full-time and part-time positions available, along with fixed term full-time and part-time opportunities covering parental leave and internal secondments.

About you:
- Registered Nurse with current Annual Practicing Certificate and scope of practice in mental health nursing
- Full New Zealand driver’s license and ability to travel for community visits
- Ability to think quickly, triage and prioritise tangata whaiora needs in a timely manner
- Ability to competently manage a caseload of varying mental health presentations and provide assessment, treatment and review
- Positive attitude with excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in collaboration with a diverse multidisciplinary team
- Excellent skills in clinical formulation and risk assessment alongside ability to develop rapport with highly distressed individuals
- Commitment to culturally safe practice, recovery-oriented care, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a mental health setting is preferable however not essential
- Ability to work during
normal office hours Monday to Friday
