We are seeking interest from motivated registered nurses with aged care experience who are keen to learn and develop skills in our Canterbury Forensic Intellectual Disability service.

- Do you have a passion for intellectual disability and mental health, as well as having scope to work in this area?
About the Role
We are currently recruiting Registered Nurses with aged care experience who are interested in transitioning into a rewarding career with Specialist Mental Health Services (SMHS). Our supportive transition programme is designed to help experienced aged care nurses confidently apply their existing skills while developing specialist knowledge and skills in intellectual disability nursing.
On the programme you will have dedicated preceptorship, educator support, group supervision and participate in focused mental health education days.
We are looking for individuals who are enthusiastic, motivated, and who can engage a wide variety of people, including whanau and community providers. You will join a supportive an experienced team that strives to make a real difference in people’s lives. The role provides an opportunity to work in a fulfilling and dynamic environment alongside tangata whaiora with diverse and complex needs.
About you - Skills and experience required:
- 3 years minimum experience as a Registered Nurse in aged care settings
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability create and maintain therapeutic relationships
- Compassion and ability to reflect on practice
- Experience in nursing leadership an advantage
- Commitment to working within the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi
- Excellent communication and time management skills, and able to work effectively as part of the multidisciplinary team
- Competency in computer software used within Health New Zealand
