The Team: What we do
- The Children’s Acute Assessment Unit (CAAU) is a busy 9 bed unit caring for children aged 0 – 15 years requiring assessment and treatment for a wide range of acute medical and surgical conditions. CAAU is a diverse, often challenging place to work. It is fast paced, with an average length of stay of 6 hours and therefore can be a rapidly changing acute environment thus it is imperative that you are adaptable, comfortable with change and enjoy working as part of a cohesive, effective and efficient team.
- The Children’s Haematology Oncology Centre (CHOC) is one of two tertiary paediatric oncology centres in New Zealand. We provide inpatient and outpatient care for up to 50 new diagnoses per year. Our regional services provide shared care support for children and their families in the South Island and lower North Island and we participate in high quality clinical research programmes with most children in our service enrolled on clinical trials. You’ll work with a diverse group of teams to provide advanced clinical care and nursing expertise to the patients and their families/whanau that present to the Children’s Haematology/ Oncology Centre (CHOC).

We have some wonderful opportunities for experienced RNs to join us in our paediatric Acute Assessment Unit (CAA) & Children’s Haematology and Oncology Service (CHOC).
This is an exciting opportunity to join our cohesive paediatric team and to be involved in a time of significant change for child health. The new acute services building in Christchurch will see our Paediatric services move to state of the art new paediatric facilities, on the edge of the picturesque Hagley Park.
Our roles will enable you to grow as a paediatric nurse by giving you opportunities to learn and develop your own skills while in turn you can share with us your skills and help us invest in the wellbeing and improve outcomes for the children and families of Canterbury.
