Registered Nurses - Intramuscular Injection Medication Clinic

We are seeking two Registered Nurses to join our newly developed Intramuscular Medication (IMI) Clinic Team. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a specialised service delivering high‑quality care to tangata whaiora receiving long‑acting injectable antipsychotic medications in the community.
We are looking for motivated, adaptable clinicians who can work independently, respond confidently to emerging issues, and contribute to a service that prioritises safe, person‑centred care. Both positions are full‑time, Monday to Friday.
About the Role
As part of this small, dedicated team, you will work with consumers who receive regular intramuscular injections at Hillmorton, outreach clinic settings, or community‑based locations including tangata whaiora homes. The role offers the opportunity to build strong therapeutic relationships over time, supporting recovery and wellbeing through a strengths‑based approach.
You will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams across Specialist Mental Health Services (SMHS), ensuring continuity of care and supporting safe transitions where appropriate.
Key Responsibilities
- Therapeutic engagement — Developing and maintaining strong therapeutic relationships that promote engagement and continuity of care.
- Medication administration — Administering long‑acting injectable antipsychotic medications.
- Monitoring and review — Monitoring medication effectiveness, mental status, risk, and overall wellbeing.
- Consumer education — Providing education on medications, side effects, and self‑management strategies.
- Recovery support — Supporting consumers to achieve individual recovery goals.
- Metabolic monitoring — Conducting metabolic health monitoring.
- Service transition — Working with MDTs to identify opportunities for discharge from SMHS where appropriate.
- Ongoing support — Providing continued support for consumers requiring longer‑term involvement with SMHS.
- Legislative requirements — Supporting consumers subject to the Mental Health (Compulsory Assessment and Treatment) Act, including associated processes and documentation (RN specific).
About You
We are seeking Nurses who bring:
- Current registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand with Mental Health Scope
- Experience in community mental health settings.
- Understanding of the Mental Health (Compulsory Assessment and Treatment) Act (RN).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong clinical assessment and risk management capability.
- Proven ability to build therapeutic relationships and engage effectively.
- Commitment to culturally safe practice, recovery-oriented care, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles.
- Confidence working autonomously while contributing effectively within a small team and MDT environment.
- Venepuncture skills or willingness to undertake training.
- Current full New Zealand drivers license
