Rural Nurse Specialist - Haast, West Coast
- Permanent, part-time position of 0.5FTE (40 hours per fortnight)
- An on-call component after hours and on the weekend
- If you have a desire to up-skill or extend your practice, then this role is for you!
Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is committed to building a health system that serves all New Zealanders.
About the Role
The Haast clinic provides health services to the Haast community, which amounts to less than 100 permanent residents. However, Haast is a popular destination to visit especially in whitebait season, and the town is often busy with visiting white baiters and tourists. The geographical distance that the Haast Rural Nurse Specialist (RNS) covers is significant, covering to Paringa North and halfway up the Haast Pass South. Working as an RNS at the Haast Clinic, you will be the first ‘port of call’ in many cases for both the residents and tourists travelling through the area. You will provide clinic-based services during the day – mainly primary care, district nursing and ‘on-call’ services as per a roster.
The service provides a nurse-led clinic, with General Practitioner and Nurse Practitioner support. You will have patients across the life span and will be actively developing skills as new situations arise. This is a position for a senior RN who has a minimum of 5 years clinical experience, preferably with community and practice nursing and who has a good sense of autonomy and self-direction. Post graduate study is essential especially around adult and paediatric health assessment, and pharmacology. You will be supported to complete further post graduate study if required.
As an RNS you will use your assessment skills and experience to provide primary and emergency care, with the support from the wider team, a system of standing Orders, and PRIME training.
