About the Role

Social Work Services at Christchurch Hospital are looking for an experienced health Social Worker to join our team working across the Christchurch campus in a Casual position.

Social Work Services provide 24-hour social work service 7 days a week with shifts operating across day (0730 -1600), late (1330 -2200) and night (2130 -0800) as part of a multi-disciplinary team who take a holistic approach to patient care. Therefore casual applicants need to have availability across these shift patterns. 

We provide psychosocial assessment in conjunction with a multi-disciplinary team to evaluate the current needs associated with a person’s admission and to provide appropriate support.

We currently have a casual position available to work across the Christchurch combined hospital campus. Whilst shifts are not guaranteed as a casual employee we do need you to be available across the spectrum of shifts we cover including late and night shifts. 

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Psychosocial assessment, monitoring and support of people within the service in accordance with ANZASW Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice and the SWRB Core Competency Standards
  • Attendance and participation in the social work team and staff meetings
  • Providing cover to our 24hr social work service as required on a rostered basis
  • Participation in service development and quality assurance initiatives/processes

About You

This role will require you to work across a range of different multidisciplinary teams, so being a team player who can adapt will be essential to your success. Our service is committed to the professional development of our staff and offer regular ongoing development opportunities. To be successful in the role you will demonstrate the following:

  • A passion for working with adults, children and their families/whānau
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to relate to people from all walks of life
  • Hospital experience is advantageous, as is experience with Care and Protection, Family Harm, and Trauma
  • Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth 

You will also be required to hold a current NZ Registration as a Social Worker with the Social Work Registration Board.
