About the Role
Are you ready for a new challenge? Our supportive South Community Mental Health Team has a fulltime (40 hours per week) vacancy for an experienced Social Worker based out of Hillmorton Hospital Campus. Our vibrant team works hard to make a difference in the recovery journey’s of Whaiora under our care.
In this role, you will be responsible for:
- Best fit for this role is a highly motivated social worker who displays a positive attitude and enthusiasm for this area of work. You will enjoy being part of a committed and diverse multidisciplinary team. You will work in collaboration with a group of professionals that recognises the importance of providing quality care and services to their clients, supports and whanau.
- You will work within a multi-disciplinary team, and in collaboration with our Tangata Whaiora and their family/whanau, primary care, community supports and our inpatient teams.
- It is essential that you have the ability to think on your feet, triage and appropriately prioritise your Tangata Whaiora’s needs in a timely manner.
- You will hold a caseload of Tangata Whaiora who you will proactively engage with and support to engage with their treatment and other holistic supports.
- Highly developed risk assessment is important, as is your ability to develop effective rapport with people who may be mentally unwell or distressed.
- Assessment, development of recovery plans and liaising with whanau and other carers, NGOs, police, probation and other services is all part of the Community Mental Health Social Work role.
- Must Hold a Full Driver’s Licence, current APC and NZ Social Worker Registration.

About you
You will have the ability to develop sound psychiatric assessment skills and knowledge of relevant legislation including Child, Youth and Family Act and Mental Health Act. Your ability to accurately identify risk and plan and advise appropriate management strategies will be exceptional.
Experience working within Adult Specilist Mental Health Services, is desirable for this role. Consideration would be given if you have familiarity working with Tangata Whaiora, and families/whanau within a mental health context. Experience working with Maori and applying the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi to your practice is essential.
The successful candidate will be able to build strong effective relationships with outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, will be organised and methodical in their approach to administration and time management, and will have flexibility and adaptability to meet the changeable nature of our mahi.
Current NZ Registration and APC in your profession is essential.
A current full NZ Divers Licence is required for this position.
This is a 1.0FTE, permanent position, Mon – Fri.
