About
the role
Based
at Hillmorton Hospital, SIPMHS provides care for a South Island wide catchment.
The team provides specialist mental health treatment for pregnant women, and
women or other primary caregivers of the infant in the post-partum period, who
present with complex moderate to severe mental illness. This Specialty Service
offers a fulfilling and dynamic environment and opportunities to further your
career. Comprehensive treatment, multi-disciplinary functions across the
community teams, and liaison with multiple agencies, are integral to service
provision across the South Island.
The team are looking for a Registered Social Worker. Permanent, part time 0.6FTE position. The 24 hours can be worked across Monday to Friday, with flexible options within this being possible by negotiation.
About You
In this role, you will be:
- Involved in MDT assessments, treatment planning, reviews and discharge planning.
- Able to sustain professional boundaries and attend supervision to maintain empathetic care.
- Safeguarding patient rights, through holding a broad knowledge of legislation
- Develop a good working knowledge of community and internal support services and government agencies that best meet patient and family/whanau needs.
- Developing a good understanding of the interface between Specialist Mental Health Services and other government agencies such as Oranga Tamariki and the Ministry of Health.
Skills and experience
- The ability to apply a social work perspective (frameworks, practice models) to understand a person’s needs.
- An understanding of Te Tiriti and knowledge of kaupapa Maori practice models
- The ability to develop effective therapeutic relationships.
- The ability to work collaboratively with the person, their family/whanau and the clinical team.
- The ability to prioritise and plan your workload-based on the service needs.
- The ability to advocate for the person and challenge discriminatory attitudes
- Resilience in working with a robust/challenging caseload
