About the role

We are looking for a Sonographer to join us in our cohesive and diverse Radiology team. Here in the Radiology Service we pride ourselves in keeping up with technology and we have a wealth of experience that we want to share!

Our service is provided across various sites including Christchurch Hospital (including the new Acute Services Building, Waipapa), Christchurch Women’s Hospital, Burwood and Ashburton Hospitals. This is a permanent opportunity for a qualified Sonographer working 40 hours per week. Participation of the ultrasound departmental shifts, weekend and on call roster is required.

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Undertaking detailed ultrasound examinations, in conjunction with the radiology registrars and radiologists
  • Effective and safe operation of ultrasound units and associated equipment
  • Providing a patient focused service in alignment with the vision of ensuring the best outcomes for patients
  • Assisting in the supervision and clinical training of student sonographers and Radiology registrars

About You

You are an experienced and patient‑focused Sonographer who is committed to delivering high‑quality imaging services and supporting a positive experience for every patient. You bring strong clinical judgement, excellent communication skills, and a collaborative approach to your work.

Your skills, experience and qualifications will also include:

  • Experience in performing Obstetric, Gynaecological, General Abdominal, Paediatric, basic MSK and Doppler examinations
  • You will be a team player, committed to ongoing education and best possible patient care and outcomes
  • As some travel is required between campuses, a full NZ driver’s license is required
  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritise, and manage time effectively
  • Genuine empathy and professionalism with patients, whānau and colleagues
  • Initiative, adaptability, and a willingness to embrace change
  • NZ Registration as a Medical Imaging Technologist with a sonography qualification recognised by the Medical Radiation Technologists Board is essential
  • Interest in ongoing quality improvement or service development is desirable
