Mō te tūnga | About the Role
The Child Development Service are a community based team of health professionals who are passionate about improving the health outcomes of children with developmental delays or disabilities. We work collaboratively with families / whānau and other services to support their goals and reach their potential. Our team of Allied Health Professionals work with children in their homes, early childhood centres and at our own clinics in Christchurch Central City. Our service covers Kaikoura to Rangitata.
We currently have an exciting opportunity for a NZ registered Speech Language Therapist to join our multidisciplinary team on a fixed term full time or part time basis, please advise in your cover letter your preferred hours. The role is based at Montreal House and involves caring for our patients in the community, so travel within Canterbury is required.
The hours associated with this role are between Monday to Friday 8am to 4.30pm.
Ko wai koe | About You
In this role, you will:
- Provide paediatric feeding and dysphagia assessment and management for babies, infants and children under the age of 16 years; in collaboration with whānau.
- Provide paediatric early communication assessment and advice.
- Have excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively as a supportive and reliable team member to ensure the best health outcomes for children and their whānau.
- Independently manage a caseload and demonstrate skills in time management, prioritisation, flexibility and the ability to adapt quickly to meet changes in clinical demands.
- Provide education and consultancy to whānau, colleagues, and the wider community.
- Maintain accurate clinical records and ensure timely discharges with appropriate referrals.
- Demonstrate cultural responsiveness and be committed to the provision of quality care for patients.
- Support team initiatives, participate in staff meetings, and contribute to service quality improvement.
- Supervise and mentor students, contributing to their learning and development.
Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience
Your skills will include:
- Bachelor of Speech and Language Therapy (or recognized equivalent)
- Registration with the New Zealand Speech-Language Therapists’ Association (NZSTA) and Current Annual Practicing Certificate
- Minimum of 12 months of clinical experience
- Client-focused with a commitment to high-quality service delivery
- Experience in paediatrics and child development.
- Training in dysphagia or experience with feeding/swallowing difficulties.
