Trainee Cardiac Physiologist


 

  • Full time fixed term opportunity (40hrs per week)until the completion of training as a Cardiac Physiologist (maximum 2 years)
  • This role will start in January 2026
  • Based at Christchurch Health Campus

About the Role

As a Trainee Cardiac Physiologist, you will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team in a tertiary hospital which is the electrophysiology and ICD centre for the South Island of New Zealand. You will be supported by an experienced and knowledgeable team to gain theoretical understanding and practical competency across the Cardiac Physiologist scope of practice. You’ll receive supervised practice while completing the Certification of Cardiac Physiology practical training programme (Society of Cardiopulmonary Technology), and Post Graduate Diploma in Medical Technology (University of Otago).

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Developing practical competency in a variety of areas, including: electrocardiographs; application and analysis of holter monitors, ambulatory blood pressure monitors and trans-telephonic monitors; catheter laboratory procedures, supervised pacemaker follow-up and echocardiograms, etc.
  • Developing and maintaining skill levels and departmental standards

About you

We are seeking an enthusiastic candidate to join us in this trainee cardiac physiology role. To be successful you will demonstrate the following:

  • BSc Physiology or equivalent (essential)
  • The ability to work within a multidisciplinary team, following the guidance of supervising staff and taking advantage of learning opportunities presented
  • Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth
  • A focus on quality improvement and patient care
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Strong organisation and time management skills
  • Computer literacy and accuracy in recording data
