Trainee MRI Technologist

About the Role

The successful applicants will undertake the Postgraduate Diploma of Health Science in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) through the University of Auckland. Practical and limited theoretical tuition will be provided, however a large amount of self directed learning is required. 

During this role you are rostered on site 40 hours a week to gain clinical experience in MRI, you will also need to undertake the hours required by the university of Auckland to complete the academic requirements outside of your normal working hours.

Our busy tertiary hospital setting will offer you the challenge of performing a wide range of procedures involving acute, planned, inpatient, and outpatient workloads. 
In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring that the MRI scanner operates effectively and efficiently
  • Producing high standard image quality
  • Managing a daily and weekly workload across multiple MRI scanners
  • Having a strong focus for patient care and workflow
  • Delivering a patient-focused service, with a best for patient – best for system approach
  • Demonstrating a commitment to professional development and knowledge sharing

About the Team

The MRI Service at Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora, Waitaha provide patient centred care across multiple sites. We currently have four 1.5T scanners and one 3T spread across two sites. We are a hardworking team who use professional knowledge and skills to ensure the provision of a quality patient-centred imaging service. 

About You

We are seeking an enthusiastic candidate who is ready to take on full time work alongside completing the studies required as a part of this Postgraduate Diploma. To be successful in this role you will demonstrate the following:

  • Self-motivated and resilient
  • Disciplined and strive for excellence
  • Dedicated with a desire for continued learning
  • Empathetic and passionate about the patient journey
  • Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth 
  • An appropriate science related qualification to degree level (such as a Bachelor in Medical Imaging, Nursing, Physiotherapy or similar)
