About the role

We are seeking an Unqualified Gardener to support the upkeep and presentation of our Buller facilities. This hands-on role involves a wide range of general gardening, horticultural, and maintenance tasks and may require working across any Te Whatu Ora West Coast site as needed.

You will be part of a small team, working both independently and collaboratively to ensure our outdoor environments are safe, well-maintained, and welcoming. 

Key responsibilities

  • Carry out general gardening duties including weeding, planting, and care of trees, shrubs, and bedding plants
  • Assist with pest and disease control using approved green weed sprays
  • Operate and maintain horticultural equipment and machinery
  • Order and collect materials and supplies as required
  • Organise daily work to make best use of time available
  • Notify the Maintenance Team Lead when assistance is required
  • Record time and materials as required
  • Undertake external window cleaning as directed
  • Identify opportunities to improve systems, processes, and work practices
  • Carry out other duties within your capabilities as directed by your supervisor

  • Proven ability to carry out general gardening and maintenance tasks
  • Ability to work unsupervised and prioritise workload
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a small team

  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • High level of initiative and accountability
  • Flexible and willing to work additional hours when required
