About the Service

The role of Nurse Consultant covers the Adult Inpatient Group, which comprises of six inpatient units across the Hillmorton campus. These include a 64-bed adult acute inpatient service (Te Awakura) divided into four 16-bed unit that provides 24-hour care to tangata whaiora experiencing acute mental illness. 

In addition to Te Awakura, the inpatient units Wāhi Oranga and Wāhi Tautoko work with tangata whaiora who no longer require acute assessment and treatment but may need further support and a longer period of hospitalisation before moving back to the community.  

About the Role

This is an opportunity to make a real difference to nursing practice and tangata whaiora care at a senior level within the acute inpatient services. As a Nurse Consultant, you will provide expert nursing leadership and lead initiatives that strengthen clinical practice, improve quality and safety, develop our workforce and drive service innovation.

You will:

  • Lead complex clinical decision making, providing expert guidance and support clinicians to deliver best practice
  • Drive consistent, high-quality practice across inpatient and community settings through collaboration and clinical learning
  • Strengthen clinical governance, using insights from incidents and feedback to shape safe, equitable and consistent practice
  • Building nursing capability and leadership, developing the skills and expertise needed for better outcomes for tangata whaiora and whānau
  • Strengthen equity and cultural safety, embedding culturally responsive practice across services

About you

  • Registered Nurse with current APC and scope to work in Mental Health
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience within a specialist area of practice
  • A commitment to biculturalism and achieving equitable outcomes for Māori
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills
  • Advanced clinical expertise and judgement with strong problem-solving and clinical advisory skills
  • Strong quality improvement capability with the ability to identify opportunities, lead change and improve outcomes
  • Post graduate diploma in a relevant field, Masters degree preferable
