About the role

Are you looking for a change of pace? Our Adult Inpatient Services at Specialist Mental Health, Te Whatu Ora Waitaha Canterbury has a 1 FTE, Monday to Friday morning shift, permanent position for an experienced NZ Registered Mental Health Nurse based out of the Adult Inpatient Group at Hillmorton Hospital.

This is a varied and interesting role focused on supporting the knowledge and practice of nurses and mental health assistants (MHAs) in the Adult Inpatient Group (AIG). Your role will fall under the umbrella of the Specialist Mental Health Services Training Unit and AIG at Hillmorton Hospital. This is a varied and interesting role focused on supporting the knowledge and practice of staff across the Adult Inpatient Units. Our model of care primarily focuses on integrated multidisciplinary teams who strive to provide excellent care to tāngata whaiora in the least restrictive manner. The Adult Inpatient Group comprises of six inpatient units, these comprise of four acute admitting units within Te Awakura, and two extended care unit, all of which are on the Hillmorton Campus site.

You will be supported in your own workforce development (including your development as an educator) by your manager and Professional Lead.

About You

This role has been created as a means to support clinical knowledge and skills development of AIG nurses and MHAs. You will therefore:

  • have a depth of knowledge and experience in specialist mental health services in Aotearoa, with experience in working as an RN in an adult inpatient service.
  • be a highly motivated and flexible self-starter with the ability to work both in teams and autonomously.
  • have a Masters Degree in nursing (or a relevant health field) or a Post Graduate Diploma and be on the pathway to Master’s completion.
  • have experience in applying adult-based education principles to practice.
  • hold a current NZ nursing Registration and APC.
  • have excellent communication and engagement skills.
  • have a demonstrated desire to be engaged in your own clinical supervision.
