About the Role
As the Cardiac Imaging Fellow, you will work closely with our Echocardiography team developing advanced imaging skills across a wide range of modalities including:
- Transthoracic Echocardiography (TTE) performance and reporting, including responsibility for finalised TTE reports
- Other echo modalities such as TOE, DSE, echo contrast studies, bubble studies, and exercise echo
- Intraoperative and structural heart procedure echocardiography
- Chairing the weekly Tuesday Echo Team meeting
- CT Coronary Angiography (CTCA) reporting – prior completion of a CTCA reporting course is preferred
In addition to imaging, you will:
- Participate in one or two consultant-led outpatient clinics per week
- Attend cardiology outreach clinics to Timaru or Greymouth
- Contribute to teaching of junior staff and medical undergraduates
- Participate in research and audit activities
- Take part in the after-hours on-call roster (1 in 8 general Cardiology registrar calls; evenings and weekends only)

Our Cardiology Service at Christchurch Hospital is one of
the busiest in New Zealand, offering a full range of tertiary-level cardiac
services including interventional cardiology, cardiac surgery,
electrophysiology, and advanced imaging.
You’ll work alongside a passionate and experienced team committed to clinical
excellence, innovation, and teaching.
About You
To succeed in this role, you will have:
- Eligibility for registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ)
- Prior completion of a CTCA reporting course
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
- A genuine commitment to delivering equitable and high-quality care
- An understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application in clinical practice
