About the Role
We are looking for two experienced and dedicated midwives to join our senior team as Clinical Midwife Managers (CMM).

Role 1: 0.6FTE (24 hours per week) permanent position
Role 2: 0.6 FTE (24 hrs per week) fixed-term position
available from June 2026 - Aug 2027 due to parental leave
This role requires you to work as an experienced midwife within our multidisciplinary team, coordinating clinical care, flow of women and their babies through our service and clinical support of staff so they can provide the level of midwifery care to women and their babies that is required in a secondary tertiary maternity hospital. Confidence to make decisions in the afterhours management of the unit with support from the on call manager is an integral aspect of this role.
Outside of normal business hours the role of the CMM is that of duty manager for the Women’s Hospital. This role also supports some of the transfers in from the secondary maternity units that transfer to us as well as the Health New Zealand, Canterbury community maternity units.
About the Service
Christchurch Women’s’ Hospital is a purpose-built facility providing tertiary level maternity care. Christchurch Women’s Hospital sits on the Christchurch Hospital campus.
About You
As the successful candidate you will be an experienced midwife who has the clinical and organisational skills to the work both in our Birthing Suite and Maternity Ward. The role rotates between both areas of our facility.
QLP leadership and a commitment to working towards a post graduate qualification in this leadership role will be supported. Complex care is also an advantage as are any other postgraduate papers.
Skills and Experience:
- High levels of experience and confidence clinically in a secondary/ tertiary maternity environment. A clear understanding of the role of LMC midwives and the importance of communication with them as we work alongside them to care for women in our facility.
- An understanding of the diversity of our population and our need to respond as a service to that diversity.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to engage people at all levels.
- Ability to provide clinical leadership and support to a team of staff.
- Effective problem solving and decision-making skills.
- Strong organisational skills
- A commitment to working with the whole team to provide and maintain high standards of maternity care for women and their babies.
- A commitment to the CDHB Midwifery vision and direction.
- Registered with the
Midwifery Council of New Zealand with a current APC.
