About the Role

This Clinical Physiologist role is part of a team providing specialised technical and clinical support services within the Department of Intensive Care at Christchurch Hospital. The Department of Intensive Care delivers services including Tertiary Intensive and High Dependency Care, Deteriorating Patient Intensive Care Outreach Service, and the Air Retrieval Service. As a member of our Scientific and Technical Teams, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality care in Waitaha/Canterbury, while joining a collaborative and supportive environment.

The successful candidate will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to ensure the safe and effective delivery of critical care services. In this varied and hands-on role you will support all critical care equipment systems within ICU, with particular focus on respiratory support technologies, oxygen therapy systems, patient monitoring equipment and complex patient transport requirements across Christchurch Hospital and Canterbury.

In this role, you will be responsible for:

• Contributing to a positive team environment and interdisciplinary collaboration
• Providing high-level clinical practice and contributing to quality improvement initiatives
• Cultural responsiveness, including working with Māori to ensure equitable health outcomes
• Ensuring safe, effective and efficient management of critical care equipment and associated clinical support services
• Providing advice on respiratory therapy equipment, oxygen delivery systems and specialised ICU technologies
• Implementing new equipment, technologies and clinical systems within ICU and associated services

About You

We are seeking a qualified Physiologist who is confident working across the scope of practice and thrives in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Your skills will include:

• Bachelor of Science (or equivalent) in an appropriate field of health science e.g. Physiology
• Proven clinical experience in critical care, respiratory physiology or a related clinical specialty
• Knowledge of critical care equipment, respiratory support technologies and oxygen therapy systems
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret clinical data accurately
• Excellent time management and attention to technical detail
• The ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
• A patient-centred approach, with a commitment to cultural safety and equitable health outcomes
• Knowledge of te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth

Essential:

• Current Practising Certificate
• Membership of SCT
• BSc Physiology (or equivalent)

Desirable:

• Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Technology or relevant postgraduate qualification
