Midwife Educator and Clinical Coach

  • 0.3FTE Permanent part time position
  • Flexible role combining education leadership and hands-on clinical coaching
  • Opportunity to support and grow midwifery capability across the service

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is committed to building a health system that serves all New Zealanders.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and passionate midwife to join our Maternity Service in a combined Midwife Educator and Clinical Coach role. This position brings together service-wide education leadership with practical, hands-on clinical coaching. The successful applicant will be confident moving between strategic education planning and frontline clinical support, strengthening capability and nurturing a positive learning culture across our team.

In this role you will support the development of midwifery practice through education, coaching and mentorship. You will help plan and deliver core competency education, contribute to orientation and transitional programmes for new and returning midwives, and provide one-to-one clinical support in the workplace. You will role model culturally safe, evidence-informed care and work alongside senior midwifery leadership to identify and respond to workforce development needs.

About the Service

Our Maternity Service is committed to delivering safe, equitable and whānau-centred care across the maternity continuum. We are focused on supporting excellence in clinical practice, fostering a strong learning environment, and strengthening workforce capability to achieve improved outcomes for māmā, pēpi and whānau.

About You

You are a Registered Midwife with a current Midwifery Council of New Zealand practising certificate and at least five years’ post-qualifying clinical experience. You will bring strong clinical credibility across the maternity continuum, confidence in adult teaching and learning principles and a genuine commitment to developing others. A relevant postgraduate qualification, or working towards one, is desirable.

You will be approachable, organised and able to balance education priorities with clinical realities. You are comfortable working collaboratively, maintaining a visible and supportive presence in clinical areas and are committed to equity, culturally safe practice, and improving health outcomes for whānau.
