About the Role
We
are seeking New Graduate Midwives to join us and work collegially within our
skilled and friendly multi-disciplinary teams as we work in partnership with
our local Lead Maternity Carer’s to assess, plan, implement and evaluate health
care for the mothers and babies of the Waitaha region.
Our
New Graduate midwifery program offers you professional development
opportunities and enables you to develop your midwifery skills within a
supportive environment. You will rotate between birthing suite and the
antenatal/postnatal ward at Christchurch Women’s Hospital. There may also be
opportunities to gain experience within one of our outstanding whānau centred
Community Birthing Units or women’s outpatients service. With our Trans-alpine
agreement, you could also have the opportunity to work with our Te Tai o
Poutini teams on the picturesque West Coast of the South Island.
We are one of the largest tertiary units in New Zealand and supported by our Community Birthing Units, we provide whānau centred support and care for over 5,500 births annually.

About You
You are a newly graduated midwife eager to begin your professional journey with curiosity, and excited to apply your midwifery knowledge. You are registered with the Midwifery Council of New Zealand, and are enrolled in the Midwifery First Year of Practice
You bring:
- A commitment to learning and growthas you transition from competent to confident practitioner.
- An understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its importance in shaping equitable and culturally safe maternity care.
- A passion for providing mana-enhancing care that respects the diverse backgrounds and needs of wāhine, pēpi, and whānau.
- A willingness to work collaboratively in a busy, supportive environment, where you’ll be guided by experienced midwives and receive mentorship and tautoko (support).
