Operating Theatre Assistant – Christchurch Hospital
- 0.7 – 0.9FTE (28hrs - 36hrs per week) permanent positions available
- Based at Christchurch Hospital Campus
- Rotating roster across Monday – Sunday, morning, afternoon and nights.

About the Role
We have exciting opportunities for motivated individuals to join our Operating Theatre team at Christchurch Hospital Campus as Operating Theatre Assistants (OTAs).
This is a hands-on, fast-paced role where no two days are the same. You’ll play a vital part in supporting surgical teams across a wide range of specialties from paediatrics to neurosurgery, helping ensure patients receive safe, high-quality care.

We have flexibility to offer permanent positions of 0.7FTE (28 hours per week) – 0.9FTE (36 hours per week). Please indicate in your personalised cover letter what FTE you are looking for.
Key Responsibilities:
- Transporting and transferring patients safely throughout the hospital
- Preparing operating theatres, including set-up and cleaning
- Collecting and delivering equipment for surgical procedures
- Managing linen, supplies, and stock levels
- Supporting clinical teams to ensure smooth theatre operations
About You
You’ll be someone who thrives in a busy environment and takes pride in contributing to patient care behind the scenes. You bring a strong work ethic, a positive attitude, and a willingness to learn.
We’re looking for someone who is:
- Reliable, flexible, and highly motivated
- Physically fit (this role involves pushing beds/trolleys and being on your feet throughout the day, up to 15km walking)
- A strong communicator with good interpersonal skills
- Able to work both independently and as part of a team
- Discreet, professional, and respectful of patient confidentiality
Previous experience as an Operating Theatre Assistant is advantageous but not essential.
