The national Female Pelvic Mesh Service supports women experiencing complications from surgical mesh. You’ll be part of a multidisciplinary team delivering equitable, trauma-informed, culturally safe care that honours Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Physiotherapist to join our New Zealand Pelvic Mesh Service team at Christchurch Hospital.

This is a fixed-term position for 1 year. As the first person coming into this role in the service, we are looking for someone who is passionate about setting up a service that will best meet the needs of the community, and confident in setting up a referral and triage process and working through any challenges that come with setting up a new role. We anticipate this role will evolve and grow with the successful applicant.

This advanced practice role provides expert assessment, treatment, and clinical management for women experiencing complications associated with pelvic mesh procedures. Working within a dedicated multidisciplinary team, you will play a key role in supporting women with complex pelvic health presentations, including pelvic pain, pelvic floor dysfunction, bladder and bowel symptoms, sexual dysfunction, and functional limitations related to mesh complications.

This is an exciting opportunity to work at an advanced level within a highly specialised service, contributing to clinical excellence, service development, education, and improved outcomes for wāhine across Te Waipounamu.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide advanced physiotherapy assessment and management for women with pelvic mesh-related complications
• Deliver evidence-based treatment for pelvic floor dysfunction, persistent pelvic pain, bladder and bowel symptoms, and sexual dysfunction
• Develop individualised rehabilitation plans to support function, participation, and quality of life
• Work collaboratively with gynaecologists, urogynaecologists, pain specialists, psychologists, nurses, and other allied health professionals
• Provide expert clinical advice and consultation to physiotherapy colleagues and multidisciplinary teams
• Contribute to service development, quality improvement initiatives, and clinical pathway development
• Support education, mentoring, and capability development within women's health physiotherapy
• Promote equitable, culturally responsive care aligned with Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles

About You

You will bring:

• Registration with the Physiotherapy Board of New Zealand and a current APC
• Significant clinical experience in women's health and pelvic health physiotherapy
• Advanced skills in pelvic floor assessment and rehabilitation
• Experience managing complex pelvic pain and pelvic floor dysfunction
• Strong clinical reasoning and expertise in managing complex presentations
• Excellent communication, education, and interdisciplinary collaboration skills
• The ability to work autonomously while contributing effectively to a multidisciplinary team
• Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development and evidence-based practice
• An understanding of the significance of and obligations under Te Tiriti o Waitangi, including the ability to apply Te Tiriti principles in a meaningful way within your practice

Postgraduate qualifications in women's health, pelvic health, pain management, or advanced clinical practice are highly desirable.
